G.E. Andrews & Associates’ mission and purpose is to serve Episcopal schools in chaplaincy search and placement. We assist each Episcopal school in identifying and hiring the person most qualified and best prepared to serve effectively and positively as School Chaplain. We work with each school to discern the role, responsibilities, personal qualities and characteristics of the chaplain that the school seeks; and we assist, guide, and lead the school through the search process. G.E. Andrews & Associates is committed to identifying the best qualified candidates who possess the desired combination of faith, spiritual leadership, knowledge, skills and experience which each Episcopal school seeks.
The Rev. George E. Andrews served as Chaplain at University Liggett School, Grosse Pointe, Michigan (1974-1984) and as Headmaster of St. George’s School, Newport, Rhode Island (1984-1988) and Saint Andrew’s School, Boca Raton, Florida (1989-2007). In 2008, he founded G.E. Andrews & Associates to continue his commitment and service with the sole purpose of assisting Episcopal schools in their search for a chaplain.
As Rev. Andrews states, “Our commitment at G.E. Andrews & Associates to providing this service is based upon our belief in the critical role of the chaplain as the spiritual leader in a school community and in the importance of a meaningful relationship between the chaplain and the Head of School in order to maintain, articulate and preserve the Episcopal identity of the school.”
Our search begins with you, for every Episcopal school has its own unique identity as a faith community and academic institution. Our belief is that the chaplain of an Episcopal school serves as the spiritual leader in the school community. G.E. Andrews & Associates is committed to assisting you in identifying and hiring a chaplain equipped with the right combination of personal faith, professional skills, and essential qualities and characteristics to serve as Christ’s ambassador to the various constituencies of your school. Therefore, our first task is to find out who you are as an Episcopal school and what you seek in your chaplain, then to discern where you want to be in the future and how the role of the chaplain affects your current and future plans.
Our search process is built upon three key areas:
To Understand Your Episcopal School Culture
Getting to know you and your school is our top priority. We take time to gain a thorough understanding of your school’s faith community and your chaplaincy requirements in order to guide your school through an effective and successful search process.
To Develop and Advertise an Accurate Position Description
Work with your Episcopal school to ensure there is an accurate position description and to develop an action plan for advertising the chaplain position in order to attract and identify the most qualified candidates based on the school’s needs and expectations.
To Make Connections with Potential Candidates
Utilizing the vast network of Episcopal relationships (Episcopal schools, Episcopal seminaries, Episcopal churches and Episcopal dioceses) to reach out to identify and contact qualified candidates to apply for the chaplain position.
Every Episcopal school has its own unique identity as an academic institution as well as a faith community. Our very first task is to find out who you are, where you are going, and how you view the role of the chaplain in your current and future plans.
Our Template for the Chaplain Search Process:
(Please note: G.E. Andrews & Associates will develop the chaplain search process in conjunction with each Episcopal school.)
Conduct either a site visit to the school or a ZOOM call with key constituents (to be determined by the Head of School) to assist in developing a job description (duties and responsibilities; desired qualifications, personal qualities and characteristics) and to learn of specific expectations for the new chaplain.
Develop a plan for advertising the chaplain position opening.
Identify and recruit prospective candidates.
Review resumes and screen candidates for consideration.
Conduct a weekly telephone meeting regarding the status of the search and to identify upcoming tasks.
Send weekly updates regarding the status of the chaplain search.
Also, if requested by the school:
Assist the school in the selection of finalist candidates, the development of a schedule for on-campus interviews and participate in the interview process in an advisory capacity.
Assist the school in the process and procedure of reference and background checks for finalist candidates.

Chaplains play a uniquely heroic and sacred role in the life of Episcopal schools, and the health of the personal and professional relationship between the head of school and the chaplain is vital to an Episcopal school's success. Chaplains and heads of schools both share the work of telling the story of the School, articulating the mission of the School, ensuring that the programs and practices of a School strengthen the School's Episcopal Identity and being embodiments of the School's core values.
